How To Read The Motor Oil Levels With A Dipstick
Getting into the routine of checking the oil levels of your vehicle is very important to it being a lasting tool of your life. You always want to check the oil level with the motor off and the engine usually cooled down. There are two levels marked off on your dipstick: the upper and lower levels, some are even just marked with a dot or hole in the dipstick itself. You want to first start by removing the dipstick from the engine block, wiping it off and then re-inserting it to get an accurate reading. After re-inserting it, remove it again and take your reading. The methods of how to understand your reading are as follows: if your reading is between the two markings or the upper and lower level, you are in the ideal level for your oil. If your reading is at or below the lower level it is advised to add small amounts of oil until you reach the ideal level. If you are at the upper level this should not become an issue, unless you are above the level, then you need to drain some of the oil from the drain pan until you reach the ideal level.
