Your tires are designed with traction for gripping reasons and water acts as a lubricant between your wheels and the pavement, essentially rendering that traction almost useless.

Remember to use extreme caution in the rain at all times. Brake earlier than you normally would and lay off of the accelerator if you drive over a puddle.
