Side Impact Collisions:

Side Impact collisions are unique. Many times the occupants head will hit the side window and bounce off.
The occupant has very little protection from the striking vehicle in these types of collisions. Only 3"(approx.) separates the occupant on the side that is struck from the striking vehicle. There are no bumpers, engines, ect, to help absorb the energy of the impact.
There types of impacts can cause severe injury, especially to the occupant on the side the vehicle was struck. The speed of the vehicle is important in these types of crashes and the severity of the injuries.
